68. St. Petersburg Parks #3 - Mikhailovsky Garden

Mikhailovsky Garden is a nice but not especially noteworthy park to the west of St. Michael's Castle and on the south bank of the Moyka River. The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood is situated at the western edge and the State Russian Museum forms the southern border. The park was built in the 1820s for Grand Duke Michael, the brother of Emperors Alexander I and Nicholas I. The views are especially good along the Moyka River of the onion domes of the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood peeking above the tree tops.

The Summer Garden and the Field of Mars are just across the Moyka to the north, and both are larger and more picturesque in their own ways. I would not suggest skipping this entirely; it's only three blocks north of Nevsky Prospekt and within a very short walk from several other destinations. I just wouldn't propose it as a top destination in its own right.
