15. St. Petersburg Bridges - Lomonosov Bridge
This is the second entry in my series on St. Petersburg bridges. Just like Anichkov Bridge, Lomonosov Bridge is also a couple blocks away from my apartment, in this case to the south. It's the next consecutive bridge south of the Anichkov that crosses the Fontanka. I don't spend as much time walking from my apartment to the south as I do north, west, or east, so I've only crossed it a few times. I certainly see it every day, though, as I walk south from Nevsky Prospekt along the Fontanka back to Tolstoy House. It's hard not to admire the four pavilions, which used to house the drawbridge mechanism that is no longer in place. It also features some nice decorative elements on the light posts at each corner. The bridge was named in honor of Mikhail Lomonosov, an 18th-century Russian intellectual.
